Job Description:

DUTIES
Under immediate supervision, performs  law enforcement work in the protection of life and property in enforcing laws and apprehending violators.  Patrols county roads in two-way equipped automobiles;  ensures that laws are obeyed, investigates automobile accidents, crimes and disturbances; testifies as witness in court trials and hearings; performs varied criminal identification tasks including surveillance of known violators; apprehends law violators, issues summons; uses firearms and other law enforcement equipment as necessary; maintains accurate records and prepares reports on activities.  Administers first aid and participates in rescue activities.  Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE:
Prefer one year of law enforcement experience.

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED supplemented by courses in law enforcement.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
CERTIFIED Peace Officer License. 

Applicants for Commissioned Law Enforcement positions must have a notarized TCLEOSE Waiver accompanying their Johnson County Application for Employment.  Waivers are available in the Personnel Office and on the Johnson County web site.


GENERAL PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or others.
