Certificate of Occupancy

Under the Texas Local Government Code, counties in Texas do not have the statutory authority to issue ‘Certificates of Occupancy’ because counties cannot require or perform building inspections.   Thus, Johnson County does not  have the authority to issue a “Certificate of Occupancy”.  However, cities or municipalities within Johnson County may require a “Certificate of Occupancy”.  If your building is within a city or municipality you should inquire with that city or municipality to determine their requirements.
