Monday – Thursday 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM

We are open to the public from 8:00 AM to 12:00PM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

We are closed for lunch from 12:00PM to 1:00 PM

  • Payments and paperwork must be in by 4:00 pm. nothing accepted after 4:00 pm.
  • Cash, cashier’s check and money orders accepted – make payable to Johnson County
  • No personal or company checks accepted
  • Credit / debit cards accepted with 2.75 % convenience fee added to amount paid

  • What is needed for a wedding:

    • A valid marriage license and two willing people who wish to be married.
    • The fee for a wedding is $100.00 cash during office hours. We are unable to take credit / debit cards or checks for this fee.
    • Pricing will vary for weddings conducted after office hours or on the weekend.
    • Please call our office to schedule an appointment!

Note When Contacting A Court

“A judge shall not initiate, permit, or consider ex parte or other communications made to the judge outside the presence of the parties…concerning the merits of a pending or impending judicial proceeding.  A judge shall require compliance with this subsection by court personnel subject to his or her direction and control…” Code of Judicial Conduct, Canon 3, Section B(8)

The justice of the peace presides over the justice court in cases involving misdemeanors, small civil disputes, landlord/tenant disputes and more. They also conduct inquests and may perform marriage ceremonies.

A justice of the peace in Texas has the following duties:

  • Hears traffic and other Class C misdemeanor cases punishable by fine only
  • Hears civil cases with up to $20,000 in controversy
  • Hears landlord and tenant disputes
  • Hears truancy cases
  • Performs magistrate duties
  • Conducts inquests
