Issuance of a Burial-Transit Permit After-Hours

The Chief Deputy's and the Vitals Supervisor's (Deputy Registrars) cell phone numbers are provided to the local funeral homes, as well as posted below.

Upon notification that a BTP has been requested and the funeral director (or person acting as such) confirms they have all the required documentation completed and ready to present, the Chief Deputy or Vitals Supervisor will contact the County Clerk for required authorization to enter the Courthouse.

If the body is to be cremated, we MUST have a “Cremation Authorization Letter” signed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner.

Upon arrival at the Courthouse, the BTP request will be reviewed for completeness.

IF all required documentation has been provided, the Registrar is assured that the final completed death certificate can and will be signed by the physician or medical examiner, and that the medical examiner has no further need for the body the BTP will be issued.
